Visakhapatnam: After improvement in its techno-economic parameters and modernisation of several facilities, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Chairperson Dr M. Angamuthu on Monday declared that their target for 2026-27 financial year is to achieve 100 million tonnes.

Highlighting performance milestones, he said that VPA has handled over 82 MMT of cargo, is expecting to achieve 90 MMT during the current year, and is poised to reach 100 MMT in the next year, with the full support of PPP operators, BOT partners, and the dedicated workforce of VPA.

He added that VPA has the largest internal rail connectivity in the country, along with robust road connectivity ensuring hassle-free cargo movement.

He informed that the port is making significant investments to strengthen its infrastructure in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s “Viksit Bharat” vision, working in close coordination with the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The Chairperson stated that VPA is in the process of shifting some of its cargo operations to Mulapeta Port at Srikakulam district and is also a key partner in the shipbuilding initiative at Dugarajapatnam. He reiterated that all officers and employees should continue to give their best, set benchmarks at the national level, and uphold the high standards of VPA.

Adding vibrancy to the celebrations, patriotic cultural programmes were organised. The CISF showcased various security demonstrations, including gun firing and sniffer dog displays.
